Born in Toronto of German parents, Thomas spent his formative years in Europe. He returned to Canada in 1987 to build a career as a graphic designer and illustrator, eventually specializing in digital imagery. Over the years, Thomas' award-winning images have been published on every continent except Antarctica (although he has some charming penguin images). In an environment where hyperspecialization seems to be the key to succes, Thomas has stubbornly remained a generalist, working in a variety of media, including pen and ink, watercolour, acrylics, and printmaking. The advent of the computer expanded his range of creative tools to include computer generated imagery and photographs heavily manipulated in Photoshop.
These days Thomas is as likely to be carving a lino cut for use on his 100 year old Chandler and Price platen press, as working on a complex assembly of his digital photos in Photoshop for next day delivery to a national newspaper.
